Work
Mike joined the Air force in 1994, shortly
after graduating from High School. He traveled the world and lived in
Germany, Saudi Arabia and Airway Heights Washington. After serving his
term in the Air Force, Mike took some time off to relax. A few months
later, he took a job at Software Spectrum in Spokane. He provided
technical support for Microsoft customers. He was promoted to team lead
and did a bit of supervising in addition to tech support. Mike met
Becky, who had plans to move out-of-state to attend graduate school, and
decided he couldn't let her go alone. A few weeks before he was going to
give his two week notice, Microsoft decided to send Tech Support to
India, and Software Spectrum had mass layoffs. With these layoffs came a
great severance package and unemployment! Mike was first in line for the
layoff and off to Reno we went. Once unemployment ran out (literally to
the day), Mike found a job with Haws Corporation in Sparks Nevada. They
manufacture drinking fountains and emergency showers. He was brought on
as an "IT support specialist." He held the position for several years
until he was promoted in 2008 to the Computer Systems Analyst in charge
of implementation and maintenance of the company's new E.R.P. system.
This position allowed him the opportunity to learn new aspects of the IT
world. Haws allowed Mike to work remotely from home after we moved to
Spokane in August of 2009. This was the first time Haws has implemented
this new work environment, so Mike is a pioneer at his company.
School
Mike's school has been put on hold until Becky
is finished with her education. Mike is a "permanent sophomore" with
only two more years to go before completing a bachelors degree. He hopes
to earn a degree in computer science.
Play

Mike was in the band The Skids with a few guys
from Haws. They mainly played 80's songs with a Haw's flare. Many of the
lyrics were rewritten by Evan, the lead singer, to reflect the daily
life at Haws. They had their big "debut" at the Peppermill Casino during
the Haws Company Christmas Party in 2005.
During the summers Mike, and a few IT buddies
from work, would go golfing at local golf courses. Mike's $100 Kmart
golf club set has held up nicely over all these years.
One of Mike's biggest passions has been his
1971 VW Beetle. Since getting married, Mike's progress on the bug as
been slow to say the least. However, he has dedicated 2009 to get the
bug running. To see the bug's progress
